The Hauck travel cot is very practical, sturdy, and after a couple of goes to get the hang of it, was easy to put up and pull down. The wheels at one end are very useful for moving the cot, especially if you also end up using it as a playpen. There is a large storage pocket at one end, and a zip flap at the other (opened from the outside) which would allow a toddler to crawl in and out great for mum’s back!
The bassinet attachment sounds like a great idea but in reality is complicated to assemble. It allows the mattress to be raised about halfway up and can probably only be used until your baby can sit up. It does work well, but there are 6 bars, 4 corner pieces and the fabric bassinet to put together before adding the cot mattress. You quickly learn the hard way to take the mattress out of the cot before assembling the bassinet! You also have to make sure you have the corner pieces in the right place if you want to add the change table and the mobile.
The travel cot comes with a lot of attachments. Along with the bassinet, there is also a large storage pocket (always useful), a clip on baby change table, clip on tray, mobile and night light. We’ve used the change table, which is a great idea, but not sure it will be practical once our baby reaches toddler size. The mobile and night light pieces were very stiff to put together and difficult (almost impossible) to take apart so they have not been used again. We have yet to pack all the attachments neatly back into the carry bag. Very frustrating!
If you were using the travel cot in one place for a decent length of time (or it was staying up in Grandma’s spare room) all these additional pieces could be useful, but in reality we leave them at home. If we go somewhere for a couple of nights we only take the travel cot (which is fab) and leave all the extras behind.
