Decking out a baby nursery for the first time can be exciting and worrying. Exciting, because of the large range of beautiful baby nursery furniture that's around, and worrying because of the expense!

Cot: There is a huge choice of cots in many stores, so finding the one that suits your needs won't be too difficult. Bear in mind the quality. Check for a good brand and look for safety and sturdiness in its manufacture.

Cot bed: If space and price is not an issue, then it's worth considering buying a Cot Bed - although it is quite large compared to a standard cot, the long term saving would mean that your baby will not need a new bed for up to 5 years.

Moses Baskets: These make great space-saving solutions and are usually suitable until baby reaches 3 months. Moses baskets are handy, because they're portable and a good quality basket will last for quite some time.

Nursery Essentials

Of course, to sufficiently kit out in your baby's nursery, there are a number of essential items you cannot do without. Before you go shopping, make a list of items you will need and perhaps even set a budget. It is too easy to buy too much, so base your needs on the following criteria:

• Baby clothes - based on current climate and about 3 months ahead etc.
• Bathing - towels, bath wash, shampoo, moisturisers, oils etc.
• Feeding - breast pumps, breast pads, bottles, sterilizers, bibs
• Changing - nappies, wipes, disposal, changing bag, change table etc.
• Sleeping - blankets, wraps etc.
• Entertaining - cot mobile, cuddly toy, rattle, comforter etc.
• Accessories - brush, comb, nail clippers, mittens, booties, hats etc.
• Peace of mind - Baby Monitor, Room thermometer
