Planning a Baby Shower

Baby showers are very common in the USA, and growing in popularity here in the UK. They are a great way for the mum-to-be to get all her baby essentials and gifts prior to the big arrival. A smooth running baby shower can prove rewarding when planned well in advance. Traditionally, a baby shower is normally organised by a close friend or relative of the 'soon to be' new parent. With the help of others, they can even throw a surprise baby shower.

Ideally, the best time for hosting a baby shower would be around 7-9 months. Not too close to Birth Day, otherwise poor Mum would have to suddenly leave her fabulous party! Here is a handy checklist of ideas to help you:

• Send out invitations: There are many delightful baby shower invitation cards on the market. Sending them out about 4 weeks in advance will give guests plenty of notice.
• Decorations: Keep a theme in mind, it could be by colour or by the guest of honour's favourite animal... In any event, a few 'baby-esque' decorations, ribbons and balloons will make your party room look the part.
• Games and activities: The possibilities are endless - If you are stuck for ideas, try searching the internet for 'baby shower games'. Avoid anything too energetic - even if the mum-to-be is a gymnast!!
• Food: Party foods such as cake, sandwiches, snacks etc. are all appropriate here. You could also have a special baby shower cake.
• Party Favours: These are small gifts given to guests. Many gift shops sell small pressies that guests can take home as a momento. If you have time, there is nothing like making your own personalised gift favours.
• After all that planning... don't forget to have FUN! :-)
